FIRST FROM AUSTRALIA DESPATCH ON APRIL 7 DOMINION POSTAGE STAMPS (Received March 23, 8.5 p.m.) SYDNEY, March 23 It is announced that the first air mail to New Zealand will be despatched from Sydney on April 7 in the Faith in Australia. As at present planned the monoplane will remain only one day in the Dominion. The New Zealand Government's representative, Mr. L. J. Schmitt, has arranged for a supply of New Zealand postage stamps for Sydney and' Melbourne for use in connection with the flight. These can be purchased at the New Zealand Government offices and their attachment to letters, with the necessary Australian postage, will ensure their return to Australian senders without a surcharge in New Zealand. This is the first time New Zealand stamps have been sold in Australia. - - | THE SOUTHERN CROSS MISHAP AT WIGRAM 12 PASSENGERS ON BOARD [by telegraph—press association] CHRISTCHURCH, Friday The departure of the Southern Cross for Martinborough with passengers was delayed by half an hour through some of the fabric on the elevator being torn ,on a wire fence outside the Aero Club's hangar at Wigram aerodrome, when the machine was turning this morning. Repairs were quickly effected. While waiting, Sir Charles Kingsford Smith did a test flight in the machine ZKAAA, belonging to the Marlborough Aero Club. The Southern Cross. carried twelve passengers, including Lady Smith, who were on board at the time of the mishap. The Southern Cross arrived at Hastings aerodrome at 6.45 p.m., for the North Island air pageant to be held tomorrow. She had taken an hour and threequarters for the flight from Martinborough. On the last stage of the trip she carried 13 passengers.

Arrangements have been made for the despatch of a mail to Australia by Sir Charles Kingsford Smith's monoplane Southern Cross. The postal department advises that the mail will close at the chief post office, Auckland, at 6.30 a.m. next Tuesday and at Kaitaia at 1 a.m. the following day.
