BIRKDALE WOMEN

The value of teamwork in community welfare activities was emphasised at the annual meeting on Tuesday afternoon of the Birkdale Women's Institute by the vice-president, Mrs. A. Bartlett, who presided in the absence of. the president, Miss Jean Wood. An outstanding local example of this had been the resuscitation four years ago 9f the annual fruitgrowers' show and district exhibition, after a lapse of several years The combined efforts of the women of Birkdale had been instrumental in effecting this achievement, and this had been continued with increasing success each year, and was now conducted conjointly by representatives of the jvomen's and fruitgrowers' organisations. A telegram from Gore conveyed greetings and good wishes for the ensuing year from the retiring president, Miss J'-. Wood. Intimation was made that, iror the benefit of the Birkdale show fund, thei Mayor of Birkenhead, Mr. G. Mills, had offered a three-hour Canadian scenic movie picture, depicting wild life in Canada, the Rocky Mountains, the shipping centres and the buffaloes of the plains. This has been gratefully accepted. - The following officers were elected: l — Mrs. Walter Williams; vicepresidents, Mrs. J. Bishop, Mrs. W. Bishop, Mrs. W. Hewson; secretary, Mrs. It. Usher; treasurer, Miss Mary Bishop; assistant secretary, Miss Ethel McGregor; social committee, Mrs. J. Bishop, Mrs. M. I. S. Dickson, Mrs. A. S. Graham, Mrs. L. Diehl, Mrs. C. Schorman, Mrs. W. Schorman, Miss Ethel McGregor, , Miss Mary Bishop, Miss Mary Hewson and Miss Nancy McGregor. The representatives on the show committee, Mrs. W. Williams, Mrs., R. Usher, Mrs, R. F. Kay, Mrs. J. Bishop, Sirs. C. Schorman and Miss Ethel McGregor, were re-elected, and Mrs. R. Usher was appointed convener. Mrs. J. Bishop was; appointed convener of the sewing and entertainment committees.
