HAMILTON REGATTA

BAD WEATHER CAUSES LOSS / [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Friday It was reported at a mooting o| the Hamilton Regatta and Carnival Association last evening that the recent regatta had resulted in a deficiency of oyer £4O. This was principally due to the faot that gate receipts were only. £IOO, compared with £l5B the previous year. Donations to winning clubs increased by £ll, and advertising expenses'were higher. The treasurer stated that after allowing for the deficiency the association still had a credit balance of about £3O. In reply to a letter from the committee' asking why the Hamilton Canoe' Club's events were delayed and altered, Mr. R. Hill, representing the canoe club; stated that bad weather had been the cause. It had been found necessary to abandon two events, but another event was substituted. Mr. Hill said that one member of his coinmitteo had suggested that the regatta committee was endeavouring to evade payment to the club because it had made a loss owing to the wot day. When exception was taken to this remark, Sir Hill said that he was willing,/to offer an apology on behalf of his club if any offence had been caused. It was decided by the committee to make tho canoe club a grant of £4 4s, the same as for the previous year.
