Mrs. J. Paykel leaves to-day by. the Mariposa for Sydney, en route to Japan. Mrs. W. H. Simpson, Wellington, and Miss Vestey, London, are at the Hotel Cargen. Mrs. R. A. Abel, Mrs. Frank Tait and Miss Joan Tait, "Sydney, are at the Grand Hotel. Mrs. Harry Horrocks, St. Heliers Bay; will leave to-day to spend- a holiday in Adelaide. Sirs. V. E. B. McKenzie-Forbes, Palmerston North, is the guest of Mrs. B. Scannell, Athlone, One Tree Hill. Miss Joan Carver, Wanganui, who has been the guest of Mrs. Houchen, St. Helier's Bay, has returned home. Mrs. H. Seagar, of Takapuna, is leaving by the Mariposa to-day for Sydney, where she will spend a month's holiday. ! Miss E. M. Jolly left by the limited last night for Wellington to join the Marama's cruise of the Marlborough. Sounds. , Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Hanna, Wellington, who have been the guests of Mrs. J. B. Macfarlane, Epsom, have returned South. Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Nugent, of Tokomaru Bay, who have been staying at the Central Hotel, leave by the' Mariposa for Sydney and Fiji. Mrs. H. Campbell and Miss M. McG. Brownlee are leaving to-day by ths Monowai on an extended tour of England, Scotland, Canada and the United States. . • Mrs. (C. A. Anderson, treasurer of the Women's Institute, Te Atatu, is at ♦ present staying at her summer residence on the Waitakere Ranges. With her are Captain and Mrs. R. Sedgefield, of Waikowhai, Miss E. Causley, of Thames, and Miss Hanson, of Orini. The president, Mr. S. E. Langstone, presided at the monthly meeting of the Men of Kent Association, held on Tuesday evening, which was well attended. Mr. Nash showed an interesting set of lantern slides of Auckland and various other parts of New Zealand. After supper had been served by the committee/dancing took place, Mr. Aspinwall supplying the music. The first meeting; of St. John's Methodist Women's Guild for 1934 was held " in the Schoolroom this week, the president, Mrs. G. Laurenson, presiding. The treasurer's reports each showed a credit balance. A definite movement toward reducing the church debt was inaugurated. The Rev. G. Laurenson addressed the gathering, the subject being "Some Gleanings from the Conference.!" ~ , The members of the Be 1 mont-Bays-water League of Mothers held a farewell social evening at the Presbyterian Hall at Belmont yesterday, the guest of honour being Mrs. J. Powley, one of the, members, who is shortly leavr ing for Australia. A presentation, on ■ behalf of the - members, was. made to Mrs.;Powley by the president, Mrs. J. Schnltz. The programme included games, competitions and musical items, with supper served at the conclusion of the evening. There was a well-attended meeting in Piirdy's Hall, Hikurangi, for the purpose of forming a ladies' gymnasium club tp act in conjunction with the men's cluh. The following officers were elected:—President, Mrs. J. Clendon; /ice-oresidents, Mesdames J. N. Stark ind Neil; secretary and treasurer, Miss Ft. Codling; auditor. Mr. J. Clendon; .nstriictor,- Mr. J. Laverick; committee, Misses G. and E. Gager, G. Ross, D. Gomez, J. Little and M. Mitchell. The membership is already 40, and it v was decided to commence activities immediately. ,
