ASSOCIATION'S ACTIVITIES
A most successful yoar is detailed in the first annual report of the Auckland Animal Welfare Association. It is now 18 months since the esl ablishment of an accident ambulance for dogs injured in the streets, and of a free clinic for the treatment of animalu whose owners could not afford to give them veterinary attention.
The report empliasi ses the need for an advanco in. animal, -welfare legislation, with the ultimate aim of passing an animal welfare act., and states that efforts were being made to prohibit the shooting of captive tirds from traps. The free clinic had be>3n used considerably, while it was hopod the ambulance service would be made available for all hours of the day, and instead of serviuyc stray animals only would cover all cases. The ladies' committee had a membership of over 30 and had rendered valuable work throughout the year. A sound financial position was reported, with a credit of £l3l.
