OUTBOARD RACING
CONTEST FOR HELEAN CUP The Auckland owned outboard Pug, driven by Mr. W. I' 1 . Neal, finished first in the challenge race for the Helean Cup at the Wanganui regatta on Saturday. The speed-boat Spot, owned by Mr. A. Williams, also of Auckland, finished second, and the Wanganui boat, Texaco Chief, third. Both Pug and Spot were disqualified for exceeding their qualified speed, and the prize money only was awarded to Texaco Chief. In spite of its decision, however, the committee decided to award the Helean Cup to Pug on the grounds that, as she had registered the fastest time in the race, she was entitled to the cup only. . The Helean Cup is valued at 60 guineas and the race is open to boats with either inboard or outboard engines. In addition to winning the cup, Pug, wheh is fitted with a 50 h.p. E class Johnson motor, won the New Zealand Outboard championship and also a first and a 6econd prize in two handicap races, I
