NEW WOMEN'S CLUB
WELCOME TO VISITORS An enthusiastic meeting of members and friends of the recently-formed new Women's Club, at which a number of overseas visitors were welcomed, was hold in the Fabian Club rooms yesterda** afternoon. The president, Airs. C. J. Kirk, presided.
A resume of the aims and activities of the club was given by Airs. Kirk in her opening address. One of the main objects of the club was, slio said, to bring women together to discuss the economic position of the present day. The club was also a social organisation, where women could meet for study and for entertainment. This, it was considered, would appeal particularly to women living in the distant suburbs and in the country. Airs. Loulie Shaw Albc Alatthews, of New York, gave a brief address on the work being done in the world to-day by women. She appealed to those present not to live too much 011 the surface, but to realise the depth of reality that lay beneath that surface. Another speaker was Airs. L. H. Gapp, of Sydney. Airs. Gapp is the vice-president of the United Associations in Sydney. This she described as being devoted solely to watching legislation concerning women in industry. The speaker stressed the danger present to-day of women losing all thev had gained in past years. She appealed to those present to band themselves together into organisations and to take an interest in the affairs of the State. If women stood together there would bo more women members of Parliament.
The aims of the new club wore also briefly outlined by Aliss Olive Foster. During the afternoon songs were given by Airs. AI Alacdonald and Aliss Rita AlcCullay, and pianoforte solos by Aliss Mavis Hewson. Afternoon tea was served by members of the committee.
