The opening meeting for the year of the Grey Lynn branch of the League of Mothers was held in St. Columba Hall on Wednesday, the president, Mrs. Hynes, presiding. Songs were given by Mrs. H. King and Miss En a. Beadle, who were accompanied by Mrs. McKinney and Mrs. .J uric. Miss Davis read interesting letters from the Tokanui branch. A: resolution of sympathy with Mrs. Fletcher on the death of her husband was passed. The speaker for the meeting was Mrs. S. 0. English, who gave an inspiring address on the aims of the league and the responsibility of the mother. She urged women to rally to the defence of their kingdom and oppose with every endeavour the forces tending to make a sordid contract of what is a sacred union, for in the sanctity of the marriage contract lay the safety of the world. The Gaiety Hall, Surrey Crescent, was brightly decorated when the staff of Bridgens and Company, Limited, held a dance and social evening to wish bon voyage to Mr. and Mrs. F. H. Bridgens and their son Boy, who are leaving on an extended trip to Australia. During the evening musical and vocal items were rendered by Misses M. Sheahan and I. Long, and dance music was provided by an orchestra under the leadership of Mr. T. Lonergan. Mr. Bridgens was presented with a travelling rug from the stalf and friends, and Mrs. Bridgens received a shower bouquet. Among those present were Mrs. F. H. Bridgens, in a black georgette and lace frock; Mrs. E. G. Bridgens. black Chantilly lace; Mrs. P. Bridgens, floral ninon; Mrs. L. Bridgens, green crepo suede; Mrs. A. Daniels, pink silk net; Mrs. H. Stevens, pastel green silk marocain; Mrs. L. Lindsay, pink lace and georgette; Mrs. D. Barker, floral green pique: Mrs. H. \V. Shove, black georgette. The committee responsible for the successful evening were Mrs. G. Copas, in black marocain; Mrs. E. Leirgett, ciel blue marocain: Mrs. E. Tillack, floral pique; Miss J. Reston, black and pink silk lace; Miss P. Rigby, white georgette.
