RAIL MOTOR-CAR
OFFICIAL PARTY'S TOUR SATISFACTORY PERFORMANCE [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] ROTORUA, Saturday The general manager of railways, Mr. G. H. Mackley, accompanied by Mr. G. T. ilson, district traffic manager, Mr. A. W. Wellsted, commercial manager, and Mr. Doidge, assistant district engineer, arrived in Rotorua this evening:: bv the new rail motor-car, in which they are making a tour of inspection in the North Island. In an interview Mr. Macklev said great interest had been taken by the general public :n the new car and at each stopping place crowds had gathered to inspect it. "lip to the present the party had travelled 1200 miles in the car, which could attain a speed of 60 miles an hour with safety. The car's performance had been entirely satisfactory. From an official point of view the trip had been very useful, and in three weeks from the start of the trip all stations in the North Island would have been inspected.
The party left Hamilton this morning and during the journey visited the Manuku mill and the railway bush area in that district.
On Monday the party, will proceed to Taneatua, when all stations on the sast coasij railway will be inspected.
