DAVIS CUP CONTEST
TEAM FROM NEW ZEALAND INCLUSION OF A. C. STEDMAN [by telegraph—frkss association] "WELLINGTON, Sunday The first team to represent New Zealand in the Davis Cup for six years was announced by Mr. A. G. Henderson, chairman of the management committee of the New Zealand Association yesterday. It comprises 10. D. Andrews (captain and manager), C. E. Malfroy and A. C. Stedman. Andrews is already on his way to England, and Stedman is there. Malfroy leaves on March 10. It is expected the team will play in several preliminary tournaments, and arrangements are under way to allow the players to compete in the French championships about the end of May. All three will be nominated for the Wimbledon meeting, and it is hoped that a fourth New Zealander will be found available for the team's matches to be arranged in England. Two of a fair standard are available in J. E. Giesen and M. Young.
Mr. Henderson remarked: "We have the most favourable draw we coidd possibly expect. All the weaker nations are in the top half with us, and without being unduly optimistic, I think we may expect to reach the final of the European zone."
