ANOTHER CRISIS
NEW FRENCH CABINET TWO MEMBERS RESIGN STAVISKY AFFAIR AGAIN TRANSFERS OF OFFICIALS |ty Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright (Received February 4, 11.45 p.m.) PARIS, Feb. 4 Another Cabinet crisis is threatened fn France following the resignations of two Ministers, M. Pietri (Finance) and M. Fabry (War), and that of M. Douslaint, Under-Secretary of Education. The Government announced to-day the transfer of M. Chiappe from the Prefecture of Police to the ResidencyGeneralship of Morocco. M. Thorrio, Director of the Surete Generale, has been appointed Administrator of the Comedie Francaise. Other changes include the elevation of M. Pressard, who is M. Chautemp's brother-in-law, from an assistant public prosecutorship to a judgeship. AH the changes are attributable to the Stavisky affair. The Socialists have demanded the dismissal of M. Chiappe owing to his handling of the Paris tiots. _ , The Prime Minister, M. Daladier has offered M. Boncour the Ministry of War and he has accepted it. M. Palmade has declined the Finance portfolio. The Government is so shaken that its resignation is expected. In any case its defeat in the Chamber of Deputies on Tuesday is probable. M. Doumergue already is in Paris in readiness to accept the Prime Ministership. • M. Chiappe is reported to have refused the Moroccan post. At present he is in bed suffering from sciatica and unable to visit M. Daladier, but his successor as Prefect of Police, M. Bonnefoy Sibeur, has taken office. During the Stavisky inquiry a witness named Pigaglio told the magistrates that Stavisky had planned to escape to Venezuela. He expected he would not be sought as the Government would do everything it could to ®void a big scandal.
