A GARDEN PARTY A delightful garden party was given by Mrs. E. M. Ellin at her home, Haddon, Kiripaka Eoad, in aid of the funds of the Anglican Church. Beautiful weather prevailed and guests were present from all parts of the district. The garden was ablaze with flowers and the flowering shrubs and shady trees made a charming rendezvous from the sun's rays. Afternoon tea was served in the drawing room, lounge and dining room, which were attractively decorated with bowls of hydrangeas and dahlias. Ice creams were served in a marquee erected on the lawn. The guests thronged eagerly to have their palms read by Miss Dorothy Ellis, while Mrs. T. Griffin was in charge of a popular Punch and Judy show. The pupils of Miss Asliton, of the Glenbervie school, presented two country dances, and a recitation was given by Miss Marie Hamilton. Musical items were contributed by Mrs. Knapp and Mrs. Simmons. An amusing motordriving and balloon-bursting competition, over an intricate course, was won by Mr. R. Wells, and Miss Newman secured second prize. Among those present were:—Mrs. A. Drake, Mrs. T. Griffin, Mrs. F. Johnson, Mrs. J.. Peat, Mrs. Laurenson, Mrs. S. Lamb, Mrs. Colebrook, Mrs. Newman, Mrs. Mortenson, Mrs. Edge, Mrs. Hill, Mrs. Simmons, Mrs. Harris, Mrs* Hutchinson, Mrs. G. Bennett, Mrs. L. Hunt, Mrs. J. Mullins, Mrs. Mrs. Braun, Mrs. Massey. Dr. and Mrs. J. W. Hall, who have been spending a holiday at Thome's Beach, Takapuna, have returned home. Mr. and Mrs. Spencer Day have returned from a holiday at Takapuna. Mrs. A. Steer and Miss Joan Stephens, of Christchurch, who have been touring the North, were the guests of Mrs. G. H. 'Morrish, Hall Avenue. Mrs. A. R. Crane and her daughter, Mrs. Carter, Lower Hutt, have been camping at Ngunguru. Mrs. H. Crane spent a camping holiday at Urquhart's Bay. Mrs. Laurie spent the vacation at her seaside home at Taurikura. Mrs. G. H. Morrish spent a week at Taurikura as the guest of Mrs. R. Laurie. Mrs. C. Louisson was the guest of Mrs. Harold Cotter at McGregor's Bay. Mrs. S. Ward has returned from her seaside home at Matapouri. Mrs. T. H. Wilson spent the holidays at Lang's Beach. Mrs. F. Brabant, of Ladies' Mile, Remuera, is spending two months' holiday at Manly.
