Miss Kathleen Lindsay, a .young English authoress, arrived in Auckland by the Ruahine with her parents, Captain and Mrs. C. McDonald Lindsay, and a sister. The first woman to be elected to the Council of the Dublin University is Miss Olive Constance Purser, who graduated in 1908 with a senior moderatorship in classics and a senior membership in modern literature. Trinity College, the constituent college of Dublin University, was one of the first to give degrees to women, and Miss Purser's election t-o the council is in accord with Dublin tradition. /

Miss Doreen Saunders, a well-known musician and elocutionist of Palmerston North, arrived recently in Auckland with her mother, and has taken up her residence in Lower Symonds Street. Prior to her departure from Palmerston North Miss Saunders was guest of honour at a number of farewell socials tendered by the various inusical and dramatic societies with which she has been associated. 7

Lady Bourne and Miss Pamela Bourne, of South Africa, have been spending a unique holiday in New Zealand, rhiefly occupied in walking along tracks and roads still unbeaten by tourists in the/less accessible parts' of the South Island'. Miss Bourne commenced her journey at. Picton, from which point she travelled down the West Coast to the Haast Pass, mostly on foot, but sometimes on horseback and occasionally by car. She met her mother near Lake Hawea, Lady-Bourne having-trav-elled down the east coast of the island by train. She left the Pembroke district on foot and met her daughter on a dusty, ■ lonely road on the wide Hawea fiat.
