WAITANGI INCIDENT GOVERNOR-GENERAL LANDS READS LESSONS AT SERVICE [BY TELEGRAPH —SPECIAL REPORTER] "WAITANGI, Sunday The Governor-General, Lord Bledisloe, arrived at the Bay of Islands from Kawau last evening on the Government steamer Matai and landed at Russell. He travelled to Paihia this morning and attended Divine service in the wTllisms' Memorial Church, where he read the lessons. Archbishop Averill was the preacher and there was a lairge congregation. Later Lord Bledisloe drove from Paihia through Ti Point camp, and to Waitangi, accompanied by Mr. Vernon Reed, honorary secretary to the Waitangi National Trust. He visited the Residency and drove up the new road to Mount Bledisloe.

His landing was unofficial and very few people were aware that he bad passed through the camp.
