MAN AT ROTORUA - SIX WEEKS' IMPRISONMENT . [bt telegraph—otvx correspondent] EOTORUA,' Saturday In the Potorua Police Court to-day Sydney Brown was charged -with being an idle person and also with obtaining credit by fraud for the sum of 2os; The police evidence ivas to the effect that accused stayed at a local boarding house and, after incurring a debt of 255, left without paying. In his possession were found several packs of cards, loaded dice, "crown and anchor" equipment., double-headed pennies and other material for gambling. Accused stated in explanation that at the tune ho stas'ed at the boarding house he had no money. He had stayed there before and had always paid. In the present instance he "had intended to pay and did not have any intention of defrauding the proprietress. Accused was convicted and discharged on the first charge and was sentenced. to six weeks' imprisonment on the second charge.
