WAIPU TO MANOAWAi COMPLETION OF WORK URGED [from ottr own correspondent} WHANG ARM, Saturday The Whangarei Chamber of Commerce at its meeting last evening discussed the delay in metalling the gap of two and a-half miles on the WaipuMangawai Road. The member of Parliament for the district, Sir. A. J. Murdoch, stated the road in question had been under consideration for some time, and the gap, which, four years ago, was IS miles, had been reduced to two and ahalf miles. The Minister of Public Works, who had never been in the North, would be in tho district next month and would go over the road, said Mr. Murdoch.

"The estimated cost of completing the gap is £BOO, and I believe the Minister'will be impressed with the necessity for the work during the next financial year," Mr. Murdoch continued. He stated it would be necessary to cut several of the bends in the gorge and the. metal from these could be used on the road. "I believe we have a good claim to have this work done, and I feel certain it will be completed during the next financial year."

It was decided that , the chamber should communicate with the county riding members and settlers in the district and, with the member of Parliament for the * district, meet the Minister of Public Works when he is in the district next month .to * urge upon him the necessity for tho speedy completion of the work.
