WEEK-END PICNICS

MANY OUTINGS HELD RAILWAYMEN VISIT PUKEKOHE A large number of picnics was held over the week-end and the many people who attended them were favoured with splendid weather. There was a gathering of 1800 at the annual outing of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants, held at the Pukekohe show grounds yesterday. They were conveyed by two special trains, one from Henderson and the other from Auckland. Various treats were provided for children, and items were played by the Auckland Girls' Band. GREY LYNN LABOUR BRANCH An enjoyable day was spent by members of the Grey Lynn branch of the New Zealand Labour Party at Redwood Park, Swanson, yesterday, when the annual picnic was held. The outing was attended by -about 750 people, including Messrs. J. A. Lee, P. Eraser and F. Langstone, M.P.'s. Results of a sports programme are as follows : 100 Yards Handicap.—G. POST OFICE MAIL STAFF About 380 members and friends attended the fourth annual picnic of the social club of the mail branch of the chief post office, held at Tui Glen, Henderson, yesterday. Two trains were used to convey the party between Huntly and Auckland, and tha trip to Motuihi was made by ferry. COLONIAL SUGAR COMPANY The annual picnic of employees of the Colonial Sugar Refininr Company, held at Motuihi Island on Saturday, was most successful, there being an attendance of about 800. The picnickers, including members of the Birkenhead Borough Council and their wives, were conveyed by the steamer Duchess, and music was provider! by the Birkenhead Band. Toys, sweets and ice cream were distributed among the children. Swimming was enjoyed and a programme of athletic eventi *?»• conducted.
