FUNDS FROM ART UNIONS
Sir, —Your sub-leader on the above subject in Saturday's Herald was to the point and the thanks of the public, particularly of the farmers, arc due to you for such article. It has been understood that moneys collected from art unions were to be distributed mainly to charitable institutions, but racing clubs, tennis clubs, agricultural and pastoral societies, farmers' institutions, etc., have figured as recipients, and farmers in districts like Ohura, where floods did such damage less than a year ago, are left in many instances stranded for want of funds to repair the damage done. If the Government wished to treat the farmers between Ohura and Okahukura with a fair degree of equity, the funds from art unioiiS might have been used to give theso sufferers some relief. Matiere.
