GAS BOMBS
WALL STREET INCIDENT CONVICTION OF ACCUSED (Received February 2, 5.5 p.m.) NEW YORK, Feb. 1 Eugene Daniell was convicted to-day on a charge of placing bombs in the New York Stock Exchange on August 8 ]ast. A few minutes after noon on August 3 i;he Wall Street financial district was th:rown into the utmost confusion as gas from ingeniously-placed bombs flooded thi? central trading lobby of the Stock Exchange and drove about 2000 brokers, clerks and attendants into the streets. Practically all the occupants of the building suffered throat irritation, violent coughing and inflamed eyes. The bombs were placed in the automatic ventilators. The police started an immediate investigation. They discovered the identity of the manufacturers and distributors of the bombs. Late in the evening the Bpston police raided the headquarters of the Commoners and International Party, a practically unknown political organisation, and arrested four suspects. Acting on furthex information they also arrested Eugene Daniell, aged 28, head of the party, who was held on 10,000 dollars bail, charged with being the perpetrator of the bombing. Daniell refused to admit or deny the charge, but the police said they were convinced of his guilt.
