While one is away on holiday it is always worth while to have a suitable piece of sewing on hand—something which is useful and yet attractive and interesting to make, but which does not require too much concentration. A luncheon or afternoon tea set with cloth or mats and serviettes to match is ideal for tho purpose. The set illustrated was made in coloured linen with a nasturtium design, which can easily be .drawn or
means extra work, for a false hern, at least 2in. wide, must bo added. This is certainly extra work, but it looks rery attractive, and it can be finished with a snail trail in nasturtium colours. The afternoon tea cloth, which need not be the full 36in., can have a hand hemstitched border, one of the most attractive of all borders. For this particular set with its nasturtium design, linen in primrose, apple green, gold or natural, would
tfaced from a printed original and traced off on to the original by the aid of carbon paper. Undoubtedly, these sets are most attractive of all in coloured linen. The latter is 36in. wide and 2i yards will be ample for a cloth either 36in. or 40in. square, and four serviettes, each 9in. or lOin. square. If 'you are making an afternoon tea or tea-waggon tray cloth, it can be a little less than 36in. square, but a ' luncheon cloth should be at least, that size. Obviously since the linen is only 36in. wide, this
be the most attractive. Beautiful nasturtium colours—gold, red, brown, tango, leaf-green and cherry can be mixed -with the most delightful effect in this design. Stranded thread is the most suitable for working, since it washes so well. Nasturtiums are in bloom now, so if you want a guide for colour, pick a bunch of flowers from the garden. , . It is a simpler matter to make a large rloth in white linen for it is available in widths from 36in. 40in. 45in. to 54in.
