LONDON COMES FIRST

AS WORLD'S FASHION CENTRE The latest of the Great Parisian Couturiers to open a branch on the English side of the Channel is Lisa Schiaparelli, the young Italian, whose designs have attained world fame in a very few years. Over 80 British hands will find employment in her workrooms, and English, Scottish, and Irish materials will be used extensively. In the largo company which attended her opening function and dress parade was the Countess of Oxford and Asquith, who nowadays writes a weekly causerie for a Sunday newspaper; Mdlle. Suzanne Lenglen, who is shortly to open a tennis school in London; Miss Heather Thatcher, the famous actress (complete with monocle); Lady Mount Temple, and countless other celebrities. A young English designer, Ronald Morrel (who is one of the group of exOxford and Cambridge men now distinguishing themselves in the world of dress design), sees in this invasion by Paris houses a great compliment to London. He declares that London has unquestionably become the fashion centre of the world.
