NEXT WEEK'S FIXTUKE VARIETY OF ATTRACTIONS ONE EVENING PROGRAMME A wide variety of attractions has been arranged for the Royal Show to be held at the Epsom Show Grounds on Thursday, Friday and Saturday of next week. An innovation will bo the use of floodlights for a programme of ring, athletic and other events on the evening of the first day. The show will not be open on the other two nights. The erection of two new sheep pavilions and extra accommodation for cattle and pigs was completed yesterday, when a visit of inspection was paid to the show grounds by members of the council of the Auckland Agricultural and Pastoral Association. It has been decided to provide temporary covered accommodation for the whole of the horse section and this work will bo completed by Monday. All the buildings on the grounds have been newly painted and now present a fresh, clean appearance. The show will be officially opened by the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, at a luncheon to be held in the grandstand of the Auckland Trotting Club on the second day. The president of the association, Mr. S. Austin Carr, will preside, and among the visitors will be Mr. M. J. Savage, Leader of the Opposition, the Hon. C. E. Macmillan, Minister of Agriculture, and a number of other members of Parliament-. Although he will be unable to attend the luncheon, the Minister of Finance, the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coat-es, will visit the show on the first day. Judging of stock cpchibits will commence at 9 a.m. on Thursday and will continue during the day. The show will close at 5 p.m., but will reopen at 7 p.m., when a gymkhana will commence, concluding at 10 p.m. There_ will be many types of horse events, including dual jumping, musical chairs, a potato race, and a Gretna Green race, in which a mounted horseman rides a certain distance, picks up his partner and returns to the starting point. Other attractions arranged are athletic events for men and women, Highland national dancing and a display of physical culture. A novelty will be a tree : felling competition, in which many prominent axemen will take part. Friday will be "children's day" and pony class competitions and a parade of children's pets will be conducted. Judging of stock will be completed and special awards made. There will also bo some events in the hunter section and the sheep-dog trials will be commenced. The grand parade of show stock will take place on Saturday, "people's day," and it will be followed by a parade of motor vehicles. A military display will be given by the 18th Medium Battery, Northern Coast Artillery, which will fire blank shells from two guns. Spectators will be able to see heavy artillery in action and by means of loudspeakers they will hear the orders sent down to the guns from an observation post to bo established in the grandstand. Pupils of the Seddon Memorial Technical College will present a gymnastic display, and other attractions will be steer-riding competitions, the finals of the sheep-dog trials and an exhibition by the Pakuranga, Hunt Club's hounds.
