SYSTEM OF RELIEF
PROTEST AT MASTERTON EIOARD ASKED TO RESIGN [BY TELEGEAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION] MASTERTON, Friday A meeting of Masterton residents last evening, at which relief workers predominated, passed resolutions protesting against the present system of administering relief, calling upon the Unemployment Board to resign, demanding that the board be abolished, and that moneys collected for the relief of unemployment in each district be administered by a local voluntary committer). Strong exception was taken at the reduction in the allocation. It was decided that a deputation consisting of the Mayor, Mr. T. Jordan, who presided, Mr. G. R. Sykes, M.P., and representatives of the Chamber of Commerce and the relief workers should wait on the Minister of Employment and place the facts before him. i MARCHERS FROM GISBORNE LATE ARRIVAL PROBABLE [bt telegraph OWN correspondent] WELLINGTON, Friday lb was reported that the Gisborne unemployed marchers to-day were en route from Palmerston North, and hoped to reach a relief camp 20 miles from Wellington this evening. If the men's objective is a demonstration to members of the Government, this could not be held until to-morrow, by which time all the Ministers will have left the city for the Waitangi celebrations. labour members in Wellington have not been informed of the demonstrators' nlans, but they convoyed a friendly warning to them a week ago that a delayed arrival would mean no Ministerial audience.
