In reply to New South Wales' first innings total of 672 for eight wickets, declared, Victoria made 407 in its first innings (Woodfull 83, Rigg 25, Darling 8, Scaife 120, Bromley 92, Barnett 25, Ebeling 21). Bowling for New South Wales, Hill took three wickets for 40, O'Reilly two for 94, Chilvers two for 124, Chipperfield two for 74. Victoria followed on and, at stumps, had scored one run for no wickets, Woodfull and O'Brien being the opening batsmen.
