FOUR STATES INVOLVED EXCESSIVE TEMPERATURES SYDNEY, Jan. 2*l Extreme heat is being experienced in .South Australia, Western Australia, Vietoria and in the inland districts of Now South Wales. The temperature in Adelaide yesterday was 110 degrees, the highest for two years. According to passengers on the transcontinental express the thermometer in the kitchen registered 160 degrees und in the dining room 130. A number of passengers was prostrated. In Melbourne 104 degrees were registered. The heat was also intense in country towns.

The highest readings in New Soutl Wales were 110 degrees at Wentwortl and 107 at Deniliquin.

RAILWAY LINES FLOODED CYCLONIC WIND'S DAMAGE BRISBANE. Jan. 21 A cyclonic disturbance occurred botween Cairns and Innisfail, causing heavy flooding and rendering the railway lines impassable. Water in some parts is 10 feet over the rails.

Eleven inches of rain fell at Tullv in 13 hours, while at Innisfail verandahs were blown off two hotels and hank and newspaper office buildings were partially unroofed. Launches were sunk in Johnstone River.
