SPIRIT OF AUSTRIA
WAR ON TERRORISM SELF-ASSERTION POLICY APPEAL TO THE POWERS' FEELING IN GENEVA By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received January 24. 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, Jan. 23 A despatch from Vienna states that tho Austrian Chancellor, Dr. Dollfuss, in a broadcast speech said he was considering appealing to tho Powers. Austria's patience and forbearance were at au end. The united nation was determined to assert itself and to crush terrorism within its borders. It would ileal with the terrorism outside its borders in a different manner and in a different place. A message from Geneva says the League of Nations is prepared to call an extraordinary session of the Council at 48 hours' notice to discuss the German situation.
Members of the Council have promised Austria complete support if sho appeals for protection against Nazi interference, but the appeal must be contingent upon the rejection by Herr Hitler of a representation on the subject by Dr. Dollfuss. It is officially announced that the Austrian Minister in Berlin' has handed a Note to the German Foreign Minister, Baron von Neurath, asking for assurances that interference shall cease. Failing this Austria will approach the League. c .
