A CHURCH SOCIAL
GIFTS TO MEMBERS An enjoyable social evening was held at the Franklin Road Methodist Church schoolroom last evening when a presentation was made to two members on the occasion of their marriage and to two other members who will leave shortly to reside in Waihi. The pastor, Mr. J. Hope Haynes, conducted the proceedings with the assistance of Mr. L. Simpson as chairman. The social commenced at six o'clock when tea was served to members of the church and their friends. This was followed by the presentation of hand-somely-bound Bibles to four members of the 6hurch, the recipients being Miss Mavis Kasper, for services rendered as a teacher m the kindergarten department; Master. Lawrence Maddren, junior steward; Master Lye, Sunday School pianist and assistant librarian; Master Keith Bartlett, for introducing the largest number of new members to the Sunday School. The presentation of a cheque each was made to Mr. and Mrs. H. Bartlett, who intend to reside in Waihi. In making the presentation Mr. Haynes spoke in appreciative terms of the services rendered by both Mr. and Mrs. Bartlett to the church during their period of membership. Presentations were also made to Mr. and Mrs. J. Barclay, who were recently married, and little Alison Lye handed a bouquet to Mrs. Barclay and Mrs. Bartlett.
A programme of interesting items was presented at the conclusion of the presentations, those who contributed being Mr. Hope Haynes, who sang and later gave recitations; Mrs. Olphert, who recited; Mr. Leslie Simpson, who gave violin solos; and Mr. Lingard, who rendered guitar solos. Supper was served by the ladies' committee, after which the gathering dispersed.
