RELIEF WORKERS' STRIKES MISCHIEF OF MALCONTENTS [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday Referring to discontent among relief workers, the Minister of Employment, the Hon. A. Hamilton, in an interview last evening, said that their disgruntled attitude might antagonise those who were helping them, namely, the taxpayers.
Everything possible, said the Minister, was being done for the men, but the malcontents stirred up trouble on any pretext. It was only the malcontents, who were in a minority, that grumbled. He added that officially no notice was being token of the strike ballots held in various centres. --
Relief workers had nothing to gain by a strike, and, in any case, the better element was against such action.
While he had not had an opportunity of studying and analysing the unemployment figures, said the Minister, he had every reason to believe that the position was improving.
