RIVERBANK RESERVE
FISHING THE RANGITAIKI SITE FOR MOTOR CAMP A report that a riverbank reserve was being gazetted on the eastern bank of the Rangitaiki River, south of Murupara, was received from the touring manager at a meeting of the council of the Automobile Association last evening. A request that the Government should permit anglers to fish the Rangitaiki River as far as the junction of the "VVhaeo River was made by the association last year, stated the report, but this was refused on account of the alleged danger of fire to Government forestry plantations in the neighbourhood. The opening of Crown land on the opposite bank of the river had provided the facility for setting aside a reserve, which would enable the river to be fished for a number of miles.
The question of motor access to the upper reaches of the river was also under investigation. Additional facilities had been provided between Murupara and Te Teko, on the northern side of the bluffs, where an area had been set aside for the provision of a permanent motor camp.
