ART OF HOUSEWIFERY
A suggestion has been made that British housewives should havo a chance of becoming mistresses of the art of housewifery, with special training culminating in an examination. .Tf the entrant is successful she would then have conferred upon her the degree "M.H."—Mistress of Housekeeping. According to the plan of the Carola School at Leipzig, which has inspired the idea, every pupil who has satisfied the principal that she is eligible is given an unusual household to manage for three days, her task including correction of diet for a member of the household suffering from a digestive ailment. She has, in addition, to bo able to run the establishment with faultless judgment.
There are several schools of the kind in Germany, to enter which candidates must bo over 25 years old, must possess a good education and must bo able to prove that they have conducted a household for live years.
This is one instance of a Briton's suggestion that modern Germany might bo emulated with benefit to not only tho honsewifo herself, but to those to whom slio is of service. /
