WOOL PRICES

Sir, —When wool was selling at extremely low prices I frequently asked shopkeepers why the cost of the manufactured article was not correspondingly reduced, and received the invariable reply that the price of the raw material was a very insignificant factor in the cost of the manufactured goods, and would make practically no difference to the selling price. A cable message from Melbourne published in Saturday's Herald states that owing to the recent rises in the price of wool an, increase of from Is to 2s per yard in woollen cloths is announced. Can any reader explain the paradox? Whaffor.
