COURAGE
As never before the world needs men and women with courageous minds, with minds struggling to free themselves from prejudices. No mother can ensure her children a happy life, but she can nurse in them that passion for physical and intellectual freedom which alone carries the raco forward. It is a poor spirit which denies a child life becaiyse iivirig is not easy. It will never be easy. Smooth it as we will, life is a precarious business. Some accident, perhaps another war, may destroy our civilisation to-morrow. Yet we cannot give up. Wo must go on. : t ' ; Hemmed in as wc are by uncertainties, our every step forward dogged by mistakes, it is from us, from our clumsy and'often anguished strivings, that the future is horn. You, and you, and you young women who are not afraid" of motherhood, are the outposts of our generation, on whom everything depends. You are not helpless creatures—you can even prevent another war if yon to do it. Storm Jameson.
