WHANGAREI RACES

SATURDAY'S RESULTS r :—• VICTORY FOR CAPE FAIR HUSHING WINS SPRINT SMALL BETTING INCREASE The Wlianp;arei Kacine; Club's Spring Mooting was concluded at, Kensington l'ark on Saturday in fine weather luid licforo a R ood attendance. Several of the fields wero small, but there was some fine racing, the finish of tho Park Handicap being particularly exciting. Every one of tho six runners had winning chances in tho straight and there were only heads between tho first fivo. Tho raco was won by tho improving Capo Fair, who finished very resolutely to givo Mr. W. !'. Kcmball and his trainer, W. Hawthorne, their third win at tho meeting. Besides Capo Fair other first day winners to repeat their successes were Snow Princo and Alpinus. Although Snow Prince and Alpinus veio tho only actual favourites to score, mdst of the winners and placed horses wero well supported. Hushing returned tho best dividend of tho day in tho President s Handicap, which •-ho won all the way, and Maori Boy mado the nex-t best return for running f-ccond in tho Park Handicap. Maori Pov was tho outsider of the field of mx in tho place betting and paid a solid price.' He made a great effort to win and would have returned double figures if he hail been successful. Alter tho running of the Kauri Hatidi< up, an inquiry was Jield regarding interference witli Mountain Preeze bv Sir Willofiyx. It was found that Sir Willonyx came in too quickly, but tho judicial committee decided to tako no action. Malbroney also met with some trouble near-the finish of tho Kauri Handicap, but it was found to be purely accidental and due to him getting on the heels of another horse. Tho totalisator bandied £7613, compared with £7022 10s on the second day last year, making a grand total of £for tho meeting, as against £'12.1)26 10s last year, an increase of £166 10s.
