MATAKAOA COUNTY DEBTS

Saturday The commissioner's report on the finances of Matakaoa County discloses that tho capital indebtedness at tho time the commissioner took over three months ago was £59,829, and payments overdue by tho council have added another £20,126 to the debts of the county. Nates in arrears amount to £1.3,921, the council already having written off £21,000 in rates due on native lands. The commissioner has instituted rigid economy and arranged with loan creditors of the county that overdue payments and interest bo held in suspense for three years. He has also arranged for a reduction of current interest equivalent to £'.'sooo a year.
