BUSES COLLIDE

INCIDENT AT KAMO SEQUEL IN POLICE COURT [from our own correspondent] WHANGABEI. Friday A collision at Kamo between J. Norman and Sons' passenger bus and a Northern Motor Bus Company's bus, as a result of which the driver of the former bus, Hodgson Norman, was injured, had a sequel in the Police Court to-day when Arthur Wilkinson, manager of the bns company, and driver of the vehicle concerned; was charged with permitting the bus to stand not as near as practicable to the left Bide. In evidence, Hodgson Norman said that as his bus approached the waiting shed the Northern bus pulled out and proceeded a few yards toward Whangarei. It then stopped in tho middle of the road, without warning. Witness endeavoured to pass, but collided. This was his first real accident. John Morron, licensee of the Kamo Hotel, stated that he was waiting to catch the bus at the waiting room and the Northern bus stopped for him about Bft. or 10ft. from the left hand kerb. After the accident another bus just managed to pass between tho damaged Northern bus and the kerb. Tho Magistrate, Mr. G. N. Morris: That seems to sottle the matter. If one bus could pass between, this bus could have got much closer to tho kerb.

Mr. L. A. Johnson, for defendant, said the impact had carried the bus further away from the kerb. Constable J. King said when ho arrived the Northern Motor Company's bus was its own width from the footpath. There was nothing to prevent it having stopped nearer the footpath. In evidence Wilkinson said that, he stopped opposite the petrol station where an obstruction on the road ran five feet out from the footpath. The impact pushed his bus about twenty feet further on. The magistrate said this raised n point which had not been dealt with by the police. However, Morron stated the collision occurred opposito" thu petrol station. The magistrate said ho would dismiss the charge without prejudice, and tho ease could bo brought again if the police were nbt satisfied that the obstruction was sufficient.
