MANY PETITIONS HEARD

QUARTERLY DAY IN COURT HUSBAND WITH A REVOLVER Litigants and counsel thronged the corridors of tho Supreme Court yesterday, when tho quarterly hearing of undefended divorce cases was held. Mr. Justice Herdman and Mr. Justice Smith, sitting in their respective Courts, dealt with 15 suits in a little over two hours. On tho grounds of habitual drunkenness and cruelty, Lillian May Muir (Mr. Vialoux) sought dissolution of her marriage with Kenneth Matthew Muir (Mr. Sullivan). "J went into a friend's place and he went round the district brandishing a revolver and threatening to kill me. 1 have scars on my chin and my cheek where ho has struck me. Ho used to come home drunk every week-end." A decree nisi, to be mado absolute after three months, was granted. Ho had visited Sydney on two occasions, in 1931 and 1932, and had appealed to her to return to him, but sho had refused. A marriage certificate issued at Nauru Island was produced "by Jennie May Hopkins (Mr. Sullivan), in sup--1 port of her allegation of desertion by Thomas Henry Hopkins (Mr. Hone). Petitioner said she went to the island to marry respondent, who was then an engineer there. They returned to New Zealand later, and while she was living at Penrose he left her and had not returned. She had been obliged to obtain a maintenance order against him. His Honor made a decree.
