THE LEAGUE CODE

ST. GEORGE TEAM'S TOUR

DEFEAT IN FINAL MATCH

RICHMOND AGAIN SUCCESSFUL

The St. George Rugby League club football team played the final game of its New Zealand tour at Carlaw Parkon Saturday, when the visitors lost by five points to three against Richmond. There was a fair attendance. Light rain .commenced to fall just before the game started. Play was last and open, and Richmond well deserved its win. The margin in favour of the local team could easily have been larger. Throughout the game, Richmond had a territorial advantage. Splendid tackling by the St. George players was a feature of the game. A. E. Cooke played a fine game at fullback for Richmond. His splendid line-kicking often got Richmond out of difficult positions. It was evident the visitors were feeling the effects of their strenuous tour, as several, players limped throughout the game. On leaving the ground tho visitors were accorded a hearty farewell. Tho team left for Sydney by tho Wanganclla immediately after the game. •

Early in the game, the St. George forwards rushed play to Richmond territory, where Cooke saved brilliantly with a great kick. Tho ground was slippery after rain, and both teams found the ball difficult to handle. The visitors? backs, Daley, Ward and Brennan, however, gained useful ground. A splendid run by Hollingsworth improved the position, but Cooke again proved a salvation. Richmond then attacked persistently and twice went close to scoring. Richmond did all of the attacking, and both Cooke and McNeil made line efforts to open up play. St. George was penalised, but Milieich failed to goal.

A good run by Ward saw the visitors go past half way for the iirst time for ten minutes. Richmond was clearly superior. Abbott and Milicich caused some excitement by kicking past Robinson, but Martin's speed saved a try. Cooke made his first mistake, and Killiby went close to scoring. Half time came without any points being scored.

On resuming, Carey made a splendid opening and passed to Daley and Hollingsworth, who was nearly across. The visitors continued to play improved football, and Sprouster raced past Cooke, only to lose the greasy ball. Fast play followed, and Satlierley stopped Brennan with a great tackle. From the resultant serum Prentice kicked through, and Robinson, now plainly injured, failed to secure, and Milicich scored. C. Satherlev converted. Richmond, 5; St. George, 0. Carey and Ward showed up prominently in a passing bout, but J. Satlierley tackled soundly. Cooko again improved Richmond's position with a kick which gained 60 yards. Heavy rairt had now set in and the play was uninteresting, although the visitors made great efforts to win. Sprouster and Killiby rushed plav to Richmond's line, where Cooke was caught in possession. From the looso Carey scored a welldeserved try for St. George. Ki Hi by just failed to convert, and the game ended soon afterwards, with the scores: Richmond, o: St. George, 3. Mr. M. Wetherill was referee.

Prior to tho match a club championship scratch race was decided oyer a full length of the football field. Representatives from each senior club in Auckland opposed the St. George players L. Brennan and B. Martin. From a good start, Brennan and Wayne (City) were prominent. Martin, however, finished strongly, and beat Adams (Devojiport) by a foot. Brennan was third. The time was 12 l-ss.
