THE HARBOUR BRIDGE

Sir, —As another shareholder of tho Auckland Harbour Bridge Company, Limited, I crave space to reply to "Dictys." Instead of rushing into print with a lot of silly remarks, questions and innuendos, had "Dictys" applied to the secretary ho would have got all tho information he desired, also a copy of the printed balance-sheet. The same remarks apply to Sir James Parr's letter. Thomas Farrell.

Sir, —With considerable interest I read a letter in this morning's Herald, alluding to the Harbour Bridge. Straightway I compared the statements in that letter with the authorised report from the Harbour Bridge Company, published in your issue of yesterday. Those statements, signed "Dictys," do not ring true. 1 am also a shareholder, and I have received the balance-sheets from tho company, which show a totally different state of financial affairs from those described by "Dictys." Moreover, on making inquiries, 1 learn that the company is very much alive and alert, and that, providing the interference of misguided people does not deter them, tho results of their labours are on the eve of unqualified success. In other words, if we shareholders remain loyal to the company, which, irt these days of extreme financial stress, have accomplished marvels, and if wo let them alone, we have every prospect of seeing the first piles of the Harbour Bridge driven at a date far earlier than the most sanguine citizens have hoped for. Therefore, in the interests of employment for the unemployed, of progress and of the general advancement of the Auckland Province, in particular, and, therefore, of New Zealand in general, 1 advise "Dictys" to control his patience and to wait just a little longer, and lie will find his patience rewarded. Another Shareholder. October 10, 1933.
