MOUNT ROSKILL RELIEF

DISMISSED WORKERS following an arrangement made by "the chairman of the Royal Oak School Committee, Mr. S. Vella, three of the six men recently dismissed from relief work by the Mount Roskill Road Hoard commenced work in a gang at the Royal Oak School yesterday morning. During the day, however, advice was received that the Mount Roskill Road Board would not be responsible for the pay of the men, and it was necessary to order them to cease work at two o'clock. Mr. Vella said last evening that the matter had reached a very complicated stage. "1 was authorised to put the men on, which I did this morning," he said. "They worked very well until T was instructed to put them off. I am prepared to take them on again, but unfortunately until an agreement is reached I am unable to do so." It is understood that Mr. A. S. Richards, M.P. for Roskill, is to interview the Minister of Employment, the Hon. A. Hamilton, in Wellington today.
