RICHMOND BEATS MAR IST DISAPPOINTING DISPLAY FINE GAME BY SATHERLEY The special challenge match between liiclimond aml Marist at Garlaw laik (in Saturday resulted in an easy win for Richmond after a disappointing game. Jn the first spell the exchanges were fairly even, Marist leading at the interval by eight ])oints to six. Alter the interval the Richmond forwards dominated the game and completely overshadowed the .Marist set. Good, support was given to the Richmond vanguard by the backs and as a result several easy tries were scored. Marist never looked the team which beat St. George and could do nothing right. Richmond scored points in the second spell, this giving an indication of how the .Marist team tell right away. Richmond won by .'tl points to eight. .Marist was unfortunate in losing Brisbane who up to the time of his injury played splendid lootball. However, with the Marist forwards so badly beaten in the second spell, it was obvious Marist could not have won the day. Brisbane received a cut over the eyebrow, but his injury is not serious. Mitchell, the Richmond wing, injured his knee and also had to retire. Marist made a bad error in changing Campbell from fullback and playing B. Schultz in that position. Schultz could not settle down and Richmond would not have scored so many points had Campbell remained in his usual position. Although there were several bright movements the game throughout was below expectations. Both teams made bad mistakes and it was clear, many players were suffering from staleness. One of the outstanding features of the match was the fine game played by Satherley, Richmond, who was the best forward on the ground. Satherley's experience stood him in good stead and his clever plav ]od to at three tries. Tries for Richmond were scored by McNeil (.'}), Milicich, I'rentice, Powell and Satherley. Satherley converted three tries and kicked two penalty goals, for Marist Herring and Brisbane scored tries, one of which was converted by Campbell. Mr. L. Bull was referee.
