AUCKLAND-OWNED COLT DEPUTY RULER IN SYDNEY RUNNER-UP IN THE DERBY PRICE TWO THOUSAND GUINEAS Advice of the salo of the three-year-old colt Deputy Ruler, by Chief Ruler from Duchess Eudorus, was received in Auckland yesterday from tho owner, Mr. C. M. Emanuel, who is in Sydney. A Press Association cablegram reports that the purchaser is Mr. 'W. Pearson, of Sydney, and the price 2000 guineas. Mr. Pearson owned the former champion Amounis, winner of £48,297 in stakes. Deputy Ruler was taken to Sydney at the end of August, and has been very successful, having scored one win and two seconds, and been once unplaced in four starts. Ho had his first start in tho first division of the Flying Handicap, six furlongs, at Rosebery on September 13, when he was a hot favourite, and was narrowly defeated by My Peter. Three days later he ran fifth in tho Rosehill Guineas, nine furlongs, won by Blixten. On September 20 Deputy Ruler provided a great surprise by comfortably defeating the favourite, Ammon Ra, in the Sir Herbert Maitland Stakes, seven furlongs, at Victoria Park. His next start was at Randwick last Saturday, when he ran second to Hall Mark in tho Australian Jockey Club Derby, 1} miles. His stake-winnings in Sydney amount to £IOBS. As a two-year-old in New Zealand last season Deputy Ruler won £373 with two firsts, two seconds and one third in 10 starts. Mr. Emanuel, who is a dentist, has always been keenly interested in racehorses. He bred Deputy Ruler himself, and has also trained him, with the exception that since going to Sydney he has been under the charge of the ex-New Zealand trainer G. Price at Randwick.
