AKARANA CLUB'S SEASON FROM OVERDRAFT TO BALANCE That the club had experienced a successful season was shown by the report presented at the annml meeting of the Akarana Yacht Club last evening. Thn president, Mr. L. Heard, presided, and there was a good attendance. Five days were devoted to Tacing, the report continued, the entries totalling 147, and the boats ranging from 14- f ooters to keel yachts. The entries, compared with the same days of the previous season, showed a decrease of 23 boats. A feature was that only ten entrants of the grandtotal failed to face the elarter, showing that 137 boats crossed the starting lino on the various days. Cup day was a great success from a racing point of view, good entries ■ being received and 'close finishes resulting. The annual inter-club contest for the Trevic Shield created a great deal of interest, and was won by Kitty, representing the Richmond Cruising Club. The races for naval whalers proved very popular, the Jeffers Cup being won by Commodore Burges Watson. Negotiations were in hand for the transtasman raw; which would be held in October, 1934, in connection with the Melbourne Centenary celebrations. Substantial cash prizes, donated by the Melbourne committee, would bo awarded in addition to the transtasman cup. Owing to lack of entries the annual ocean race for the Balokovic Cup was abandoned. The report also referred to the deaths of •> Messrs. T. Hanson and R. Conley. two very old members of the club. The balance-sheet showed the club to be in a sound, financial position. Commenc- • ing the year with a bank overdraft of £69, the club had not only paid off that eum, but hud completed the year with a credit balance of £l3 after meeting all The receipts included £176 from socials, £145 from locker fees, £54 from subscriptions, and £3O from donations. The principal items of expenditure were £SO for general expenses, £4O for cash prises, £3O for advertising, and £ls for lighting; The assets over liabilities were valued at £9Bl. In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, Mr, F, W. Jeffers congratulated the club on the progress it had made during the year.
