ST. GEORGE TEAM DEFEATED VICTORY.GAINED BY RICHMOND THIRTEEN POINTS TO EIGHT The St. George Rugby League team, of Sydney, was defeated in the second game of its tour by the Richmond Club team, Auckland, at Carlaw Park yesterday afternoon. in the presence of a large gathering of spectators. The home team won a gruelling game by 13 points to 8. Conditions were ideal, but play was marred somewhat by rough play, which was frequent during the game. The St. George backs handled badly early in the first half, and eeveral openings were lost. The Richmond forwards played hard, bustling football, and at times the visitors were rattled. An obstruction try to Richmond, which placed it in the lead, was resented by the visitors. From this On the referee lost control of the game, and blows were freely exchanged between the players. The spectators, however, enjoyed a great battle between the rival forwards. All efforts of the visiting team to open up play were frustrated by deadly tackling by the Richmond baoks. There is no doubt Richmond was the bettei team on the day's play. Quick breaking by the Richmond forwards hampored the St. George backs, several of whom resented being tackled. The Best Players Prentice, Powell and Mitchell were the outstanding backs for Richmond. The firstnamed played a great defensive game. Mitchell displayed a lot of dash on the wing. Satherley, Lawless and Telford were the outstanding forwards. Mork and Daley played splendidly for the visitors, some of the other backs paying too much attention to the man. DEVONPORT AND RICHMOND FURTHER MEETING REQUIRED A decision to ask the Devonport and Richmond senior teams to meet again on October 7 was made by the management committee of the Auckland Rugby League last evening. The fact that this contest would arouse considerable interest, consequent upon Richmond's victory over the St. George team, was fully realised by members of the committee, That several suggestions had been t.vought forward with the object of the club colours of senior teams being made more distinguishable was reported by the chairemn. who said that the matter would receive consideration.
