Whakatane.—ln a return match played yesterday at Matata, Waipa was defeated by Rangitaiki by 25 points to 3. The score does not indicate the even nature of the sjnme. as Waipa dominated the play in the forward division and won the ball in almost every line-out and ' scrum. The Rangitaiki backs, however, showed more combination, and some clever play by the Howell brothers was responsible fOr the majority of the points scored by Rangitaiki. Waipa's only score came from a free kick awarded for a mark. The weather conditions were ideal, and there was one of the largest attendances at a representative match this season. Mr. Rigger, of Taura.nga, ably controlled the game.
