HARBOUR BOARD LAND
AREA AT WHANGAREI -■ '■ -M-.-PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT WORK [fbom oub own correspondent] WHANGAREI, Thursday The proposed development works on the Whangarei Harbour Board's endowment lands on the south side of the Whangarei Harbour have been the subject of communication between Mr. A. J. Murdoch, M.P., and the Lands Department'. : ' Mr. Murdoch has received a reply that the matter was in t&e hands of the Small Farms Board, which had decided, after conferring with the Public Works Department, upon the ad- ' visability of having legislation paused to meet the position so far as all endowment lands where the Small Farms Board had undertaken development work were concerned.
The principal object of the proposed legislation was the validating of expenditure by the. Unemployment Board on endowment lands, giving the board power to recoup itself to the extent of its expenditure. The land would still remain the property of the . endowment holder, but a portion of the income for the first two years would be retained by the Small Farms Board. Mr. Murdoch states that he understands the legislation, which has been drafted, will bo presented to Parliament durjng the forthcoming session, and if passed, the work on Whangarei Harbour Board's reclamation be proceeded with immediately.
