DISBANDMENT OF UMPIRES CONTROLLING BODY'S VIEW "With reference to the decision _ of the Auckland Cricket Umpires' Association to disband, Mr. N. H. E. Hockin, eecretary to tho Auckland Cricket Association, said it was regretted that statements lind been made to the effect that dissension between the Auckland Cricket Association and the Auckland Umpires' Association Had led to the disbanding of the latter body. Peaceful negotiations for a reconstruction of tho Umpires' Association at its request had beon going on for several weeks. Amend- . ments to the proposed new constitution, as suggested by the Umpires' Association, had been referred by the management committee of tho Cricket Association to a subcommittee specially set up for tho purpose of finalising matters. On account of the only copy of the new constitution and rules having not aocompanied the amendments, and still being in the hands of the Umpires' Association, tho work of the sub-committee was delayed. The Auckland Cricket Association would now lake hteps to emol umpires on a different basis, which would include the payment of officiating senior umpires, said Mr. Hockin, The Cricket Association was grateful for tho assistance rendered by umpires in tho pact, and was assured' of tho enrol-' ment of many members of the old association. Unofficial statements to the effect'that the Auckland Cricket Association desired" to get rid of some of the older and allegedly inefficient members of the Umpires' Association, and that that body's •amendments had been ignored, could not be taken seriously, and only tended to create dissension when euch condition did not exist in. the Cricket Association.
