The Royal ;New Zealand Yacht Squadron •will hold its- annual meeting in the clubrooms next Friday.., The annual states that the club was maintaining a high standard in' yachting, -and was continuing to progress. The rriembersliip now stood at 241 town members, 85 country, GO absentee,- 28 junior, and 20 junior racing members, making a total of 434. Notwithstanding light winds which prevailed during harbour races, the past;-'season's racing was most successful. Large entries were received for all events, and members were to bo congratulated on the keen manner in which, all races were contested. The T. M. Alexander' Memorial race to the usual destination, Te. Kotuma, again attracted a large entry. Ngatoa again proved, her excellent sailing qualities by "winning with a considerable margin ~ot .time. ! - The inclusion of two harbour races for C class yachts .marked an>innovation, and it is recommended that similar provision be made next year, when it is expected that five yachts will be available for. racing in this class. A points championship was held for M class, points being allotted for placings and finishes in all races held during the season. Maroro was the winner._ Great interest woe again shown in tho fiQuadron week-end. Twenty-one yachts took part in the night cruising race to Kawau for Admiral Blake's trophy, which was won by Ariki. H.M.S. Diomeda and: H.M.S. Diinedin .were anchored in .the - bay during the week-end/ and' the squadron was indebted to Commodore Burges Watson for placing the., Diomeda at the disposal of the racing committee '^s'flagship', and also for the assistance given in providing and mooring turning marks. In addition „to the usual events'for squadron yachts, "a race was provided for Navy boats for a squadron pennant. This was won by the Dunedin's cutter, sailed by.Lieutenant Courage, after a keen contest. '. With the object of .assisting in the Mayor's campaign for v the relief of distress in the cits', a club evening and dance was held in the. squadron rooms. The function was most successful, and resulted in £69 17s Id being donated to the Mayor's fund. Mention is also made in the report of the deaths of Messrs;- E. H. Chamberlain and S. A. Smith, and.
