SPRING FLOWER SHOWS

DISPLAY AT TE AWAMUTU THE PRINCIPAL AWARDS INTER-DISTRICT CONTEST V ; / —• — [from our OWN correspondent] TE AWAMUTU, Thursday The annual spring show of the To Awamutu Horticultural Society opened yesterday, and there- was keen competition in the principal classes from Te - Awamutu and the district, and also from Cambridge, Special interest centred ill the contest for the Blunclell Shield, for defined district displays of cut flowers. Paterangi won with a total of 87 points, with Pokuru and Hairirii equal, second, with 86 points. • ( Championships in the narcissi section were won as follows: —Incomparabilis, Mrs A. J. DAFFODILS EXHIBITED FIXTURE AT WHANGAREI [from • our own correspondent] WHANGAREI. Thursday A daffodil show was held in Whangafei vesterdav under the auspices of the Ladies' Guild of the Whangarei Presbyterian Church. In opening the show, the Mayor, Mr. W. Jones, referred to the fact that sach year the exhibits were better, and he was pleased to see such a large entry. He referred to the excellence of the bloom's in spite of the fact that many flowers had been damaged by the storm of last week-end. An enteresting feature of the show :was a new species of daffodil grown by Mb; R. H. Allan, and in honour of the Mavor it was decided to name it " William Jones." BLOOMS AT WHAKATANE EXHIBITS OF HIGH QUALITY [by telegraph—own correspondent] WHAKATANE, Thursday Record entries were received for the •annual bulb and spring flower show held to-day in Whakatane. There was a marked increase in the attendance ' of the public, and the blooms exhibited were of better quality than those shown in, previous years. The points prize .in the narcissi and cut flower section was won by Mrs. Pattie, of Matata. Other points prize winners were Mrs. r. ißridger and Mr. P- Fogarty.
