MOTORIST FINED £ls
INTOXICATION CHARGE CANCELLATION OF LICENCE A plea of guilty to a charge of being intoxicated while in charge of a car in the Great North Road on Wednesday evening was made by a mechanic, Robert Rennie, aged 33, in the Police Court yesterday. Detective-Sergeant O'Sullivan said that at about 10.50 p.m. accused's car created a traffic block in Khyber Pass Road. The car- had first become involved in a slight collision and had then run across the footpath into a shop window. Constables in Karangahape Road later noticed the car travelling in a very erratic manner. They followed and eventually the car was stopped. Accused was intoxicated enough to be arrested on a charge of drunkenness apart from driving the car. Mr. Hart, who appeared for accused, said his client admitted having had a few drinks in the afternoon. He •was willing to take out a prohibition order. At present he was only casually employed. , , , , , Pointing out that accused had had two previous convictions for dangerous driving, Mr. Wi R. McKean, S.M., convicted Rennie and imposed a fino of £ls, in default two months' imprisonment. His licence was cancelled and he was debarred from obtaining a new one for two years from expiry of the present licence year.
