EUROPEAN'S OFFENCE
BECHUANALAND CASE SENTENCE OF BANISHMENT CAPETOWN. Sept. 13 Phineas Macintosh, who was charged with immorality against native women in Bechuanaland, was sentenced at Palapvo to banishment from all native territories. He admitted assaulting a native, who hib a native woman with whom he (Macintosh) was living in the native settlement.
The official evidence gave a deplorable account of accused's relations with women, and the sentence has given general satisfaction. The Resident Commissioner of Bechuanaland served an order on the chief, Tshekedi, limiting his movements within tho area of the Palapye camp and suspending his chieftainship, pending the result of an inquiry into the Native Court's action in ordering lashes in the case of Macintosh.
